I prefer the Peninsula. It is much simpler and gives you the chance to get lots of gold and XP. You can beat Valley of Death even without the white mage reinforcements.

I was stuck at the same level some time ago. I've replayed the scenarios before that, paying attention to gaining XP, then I've beated IoA in no time. You should have at least one ranger/marksman, one hero/captain, one knight/lancer and maybe a druid (or a shaman close to level up). Retart the campa...

(1) Medium (2) 2 (3) Very obvious: kill, kill, kill (and let your allies be killed  ) (4) Nice. As a Wesnoth newbie I've appreciated the quick tutorial on horsemen. (5) Holding the village between the forest and the enemy castle during the first night: if my units survive, then the orcs are...

I do some save/reload, because some scenarios are simply too annoying to replay from scratch everytime some stupid charachter gets killed.
Also, the only way I've found to complete The Sceptre of Fire is looking in the savefile where in the hell the Sceptre is.

[1] Medium [2] 1 for fleeing only, 3 if you want some XP [3] Very clear, it's impossible to miss the waypoint [4] Nice introduction to the campaign [5] Killing enemies before the allied units do, to get XP; moving Konrad and Delfador through the forest (damn, they're sluggish, compared to the elves)...

Uhm, I really like this idea. Tout, do you think your patch could apply cleanly to previous versions? I'm using 0.8 now and I just can't download the newest 0.8.3 due to a slow modem connection, plus I'd hate to do the ./configure && make thig again only to discover that the game just doesn'...

Your troops ar too weak. I've beaten the level easily with a Captain, a Ranger, a Druid, two Knights (one of which close to level up to undead-squishing-Paladin), one White Mage (really useful) and a couple of level 1 experienced units from BotP. Just recruit some more Mages then go south, wait for ...

I've found the sources in a DVD bundled with an Italian magazine. Compiled it (great, it compiled flawlessly at the first try!), installed it, run it.
Tricky game to master, but really, really addictive. Thanks to all the code, artwork and translation guys for this awesome game!
