Abandoned melody

Post by holypaladin »

Why BfW no longer uses old opening melody? Last version using it was 1.12 or 1.13, I can't understand why no more since it was rather good one

Mainly so that people aren't blasted in the face with the start of the old main menu song.

any chance that if it got sort of "remixed" into a more inviting version of the song, while still keeping the main melody, it could come back?

Isn't that what already happened?

Not for the main title, i don’t think so, it sounds WAY too different at least.
The previous song was much more epic (be it a little too loud) imho.
It sounded vibrant and powerful and had a very distinct progression, i think it was easier to recognize and associate with the game.
If it were to be remixed i think we would turn down the “power” but let it hit the same recognizable notes, (which the new one doesn’t).

Compare the old main_menu.ogg 00:00-00:08 to the new return_to_wesnoth.ogg 00:12-00:21.

I liked the old intro music, it made the game more distinct.
It felt more "powerful" and epic.
That blast was the first step that signaled me, that I was about to immerse myself in a fantasy world, and about to embark in heroic battles and epic adventures.
Beheld the origins of BFW.

Yeah I think it would be nice if there were at least an option to toggle between the two; the current solution of telling users to try renaming the files is a bit too advanced for most players. If such an option can't be added to the main game, I wonder if maybe it's something that the Tamanegi Jukebox Modification could do?
