Re: Books discussion
I have loads of Star Wars and Star Trek books. Also quite a lot of books by Clive Cussler (he's my favourite author), if you're into detective/adventure style books you should definitely check his books out.

Re: Books discussion
Read Ender's Game. Loved it, despite knowing the end well in advance.
Can see peoples' point about it not really feeling like small children being portrayed, but part of the point is that they aren't normal small children.
Still, it wouldn't have suffered remotely if they'd started 5 years or so older than they did, or if Card had been a little better at the really young voice for the beginning of the book.
Still a truly fantastic book though, and really makes me want to read more of Card's work. It disappoints me that I've left it this long.

Interesting, I've read Ender's Game and I wouldn't call it a masterpiece. Yes, it was good, but I can't understand people making all the noise around it.
Anyway, I came here with yet another Stephen King. This time: "It". Excellent book, kingish creepiness at its best!

Oh, I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?

that was a fun read. The rest of the series is good too, but A Game of Thrones was my favorite.Frogger5 wrote:Just got "A Game of Thrones" by George R R Martin for christmas. Boy am I exited.
I'm most of the way through "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert A. Heinlein. People have been recommending it to me for years. I'm not all that impressed at this point. It is a decent book, but It doesn't strike me as the masterpiece that everyone makes it out to be.

Re: Books discussion
Just read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. And watched the film. In the same 24 hour period. Somewhat harrowing experience, but dang if that isn't a good book (and film). I really wanna check out the rest of the trilogy now.

Was at my local bookstore and happened to come across a very-reduced price copy of Shel Silverstein's Where the Sidewalk Ends. Fortunately I resisted the urge to buy it, yet I felt compelled to fork over the little extra cash on top of my lineup of already selected books. I've always loved the sort of childish poems created from the adult mind. Something about that book stays in my heart until this very day.

Re: Books discussion
I read the entire Percy Jackson and the Olympians series over the weekend. Very easy to read, but well worth while. So many myths were integrated seamlessly into the story that I was amazed. I also liked the sprinkling of Ancient Greek.
Re: Books discussion
I just read all of the Mistborn trilogy, Warbreaker, Elantris, and The Alloy of Law.
Needless to say, I'm a big fan of Brandon Sanderson now. Need to go grab the Stormlight Archive at some point! Sanderson seems to use lots of similar themes like the concept of the 'divine godking' either as a race or ruler, and his fantasy religions are really quite impressive.

Re: Books discussion
with which book did u start reading sanderson? i read mistobrn first and completed the trilogy, then i found warbreaker slightly worse but still a good read. i considered buying elantris but then i read accidently some spoilers. is it good though? i might reconsider my decision. the alloy of law is on my list but i will buy it when it is cheaper.
i am reading "how would you move mount fuji?" http://www.amazon.com/Would-Move-Mount- ... 0316919160 by W. Poundstone. impressive read so far.
teaser: you have two lengths of fuse. each will burn for exactly one hour. but the fuses are not necessarily identical and do not burn at a constant rate. there are fast-burning sections and slow-burning sections. how do you measure 45 minutes using only the fuse and the lighter?
i will post the answer in approx. a week

Re: Books discussion
I actually got into his books with his novella, Infinity Blade: Awakening- after reading that I liked his style enough to try out Warbreaker for free, and then I got hooked with Elantris and Mistborn. I think out of all of these, I like Mistborn the most, with Elantris second to the trilogy. Warbreaker I feel is a weaker link, though still an awesome read.

Re: Books discussion
Just finished the Lies of Locke Lamora, and wottabook. Very nice con novel, really well-built and intriguing world, and some laugh-out-loud brilliantly audacious moment. Very entertaining. Will be getting the next one, if and when it's out.
Also am now the proud owner of a kobo e-reader, so I will finally get round to reading that Warbreaker PDF I've had knocking around for a while.

Re: Books discussion
Just finished Warbreaker, and I can only say that I TOTALLY called the ending with the . No worse for it, though, great book.
And yeah, this ereader is going to hurt my wallet. Dresden Files books are worth it though. Currently reading Moby-Dick, or The Whale.
