Game Vacancy Etiquette
Hello! My name is Catherine and I've recently started playing Wesnoth. I was wondering what the protocol is for games in lobby with vacancies - is it generally acceptable for me to join them, or are those vacancies generally reserved for a particular person?

Hello, welcome to the forums.
Normally, the non-password protected games are open to join by anyone.
Some pseudo-ranked games usually have password protection enable but you may observe those as a spectator.
You can also host your own game with your preferred settings and someone may join as well.

Re: Game Vacancy Etiquette
It can happen that reserved games are not passworded and if you jump in quickly to such a game it can end up being awkward. But it is not fatal. As for etiquette the onus is on the people setting up the game to either password or at least put it in the game title that it is reserved for specific players.
